Issue List: Issue: No headings on pages
Issue 11
| Title | No headings on pages |
| Status | Fixed |
| Priority | Medium |
| Description | When attempting to navigate the page by headings using H or Insert-F7 in JAWS, JAWS reports that no headings are found. Enclosing Widget/tool descriptions, such as “Updates,” “Bookmarks,” and “News” in headings would give provide a method for moving quickly around the page without navigating each table cell or moving line-by-line down the page. Headings should be used throughout the site to help users “jump” to content and relevant information. At least one level-one heading should be assigned to all pages (e.g. “Discussions” at the top of the discussions module and the title for each “Content” page). This makes the issue of lack of usable skip-navigation less of a problem. (Skip navigation, something many screen reader and mobility impaired users expect, is tricky to implement and does not work consistently across browsers in frames-based pages.) This issue has been revised on 7/21/08. A variation of it appears either in global issues or in the resolved issues section. |
