Agenda

Kickoff TC Collaboration Meeting

  1. Introduction
  2. Utilizing collaboration application
  3. Prioritizing accessibility/usability findings
  4. Selected accessibility issues

    1. General
      • Integrating Captioning in TC
      • Supporting multi-login sessions; when working on secure pages requiring login/password, as soon as the second user logs in, the first person is logged out.

    2. Administrative interface
      • Making the form more intuitive and accessible.
      • Confusion: Owner’s name/company name/title/room name
      • No navigation mechanism; e.g. Room created but no way to go back except browser back button.
      • Many options with no inline help
      • Suggestion: pre-defined settings for creating new rooms
      • Making the form more accessible; form controls don’t have proper labeling and update button is not clickable.
      • Suggestion: Fresh interface redesign

    3. Moderator interface
      • Re-grouping menus/menu items
      • Shortcut keys interference; Microphone adjustment and Moderator menu (alt+m)
      • Ability to assign important functions to a shortcut key, e.g. Unlock.
      • Suggestion: User shortcut keys preferences.

    4. End-user interface
      • tabbing between focusable elements in the browser window, participant list, chat edit, and chat window. Once you are out of the browser window, you can’t get back to the browser window again.
      • Improving document Center
      • Embedding PowerPoint Slide Controls (next/Previous) in the browser window? At this time it is controlled from a separate window so you have to switch back and forth between the control window and the browser window.
      • Accesskeys in the browser window doesn’t work.

Minutes

Hadi asked if we should invite more people to subsequent meetings.

Steve Hoffmann suggested that the more professionals involved, the better.

Hadi asked how we want to prioritize accessibility/usability.

Steve said “usability” is a large subject which includes Mac compatibility for example.

George Buys said anything that already exists in the program needs to be made accessible (or more accessible) first. Then “new things” can be added to the
program to increase accessibility or add accessibility features. Anything that is NOT accessible would be considered a “bug” and receive a high priority.

Jon said, when comparing TC with other tools like Elluminate: Mac compatibility was an issue since some students use Macs. Desktop is an important feature.
TC has been used in webinars and showing websites was used.

Norm mentioned the following features would be nice to see: technical standards and features are only as good as the instructor’s ability to “explain” what
he/she is teaching.

Regarding Mac client, Steve said we expect to have Beta in June and officially release September, and a major new release by the end of the year

Steve suggested that for captioning we plan to offer a “separate window” which would load a pre-defined webpage that would stream the captions. TC offers
a separate free utility which can be used to stream captions.

Hadi suggested it may be better to be embedded instead of separate window

Jon agreed –

Jon : But I think having an option to have the caption text under the presentation would be how other captioning is done
Jon : Most multimedia players place the captions under the video

We agreed to meet bi-monthly (first and third Tuesday of every month)

Next meeting is May 19th at 11am Central

Steve has agreed to discuss being more aggressive and meeting in person at UIUC sometime this summer.
