  • No additional comments
  • Remove from agenda

2. Hierarchical navigation lists
  • Flyout menus example: http://www.illinoisrealtor.org/
  • DHS menu bar: http://www.dhs.state.il.us/opensource/
  • ARIA Menu Bar: http://www.oaa-accessibility.org/examples/role/85/

  • Are top level links going to a page or just being used for hide/show
  • Not clear how the keyboard models should work
  • There is a trade off between amount of content
  • Should links be hidden from AT

Design Recommendations

Basic Keyboard Support
  • Menu items are part of the tab order
  • Hidden menu items become visible when they get focus
Next Level Keyboard Support
  • Tabs still go through all links
  • Use of the arrow keys can be used to move focus (similar ARIA style guide)
Basic Markup
  • Nested unordered lists
  • Header before the top the list to identify the menu
  • Use of the role=“navigation” on an element that contains the unordered lists
Use ARIA Markup
  • Not recommended since there are problems moving seamlessly moving in and out of documents and applications
Pointer Support
  • Delay in closing popup/flyout menus and that is to help mouse users with disabilities

Next Meeting June 8th
